"The jeopardy answer is: Why Should You Distract Little Red With Discussion Of Enterprise?"
NEW PLAN! My job searching plans have become all temporarily woeful and half of Oregon and Washington are underwater, so let's talk about Enterprise!

I have a burning question regarding Enterprise, and that is:

Did T'Pol have sex with Sim in "Similitude"?

Yes. That's what "going-away present" and "fade to black" means on TV.
No. Sometimes a kiss is just a kiss.
I don't watch this show!

Also, to generate more thinky thoughts:

Three Enterprise Episodes I Think Are Actually The Best They Made:

1) "In A Mirror, Darkly" -- ZOMG. ZOMG! Continuity and old trek and attention to detail and Hoshi and Mayweather RULE THE UNIVERSE.
2) "Carbon Creek" -- I have such love for this episode. SUCH LOVE. It never gets old! It is heartwarming Star Trek at its best.
3) "Twilight" -- Damn. This episode is fabulous. It's even Archer/T'Pol and I love it, because it's done so completely wonderfully well and it's heartbreaking and perfect and there are time worms.

Is it odd that the best episodes they've ever done are all outside of the normal Enterprise space-time?

My Actual Favorite Episodes That I Would Choose To Bring To A Desert Island and/or Leave On My DVR For A Year Now:

2) "Home" -- T'Pol's mom. Is. Awesome. And then Phlox and Hoshi bond a bit.
3) "Carbon Creek" -- ... this one makes both lists. So does Part I of the Mirror Universe one, actually.

Discuss! Ask more questions! Tell me your favorites! Explain me The Real Truth About T'Pol And Sim! Distract meeeeeee!

"Twilight" is the episode in season 3 when Archer gets a disease that makes it so he can only form short-term memories... so every day for like 15 years T'Pol has to tell him that the Earth is destroyed. And there are some time parasites in his brain. And it's the only time when I was like "OH GOD, ARCHER, JUST GIVE HER LOVE!"

dude, I admit it. I have trip/t'pol love. and I totally came to the party late on this. I think ENT had been off the air more than a year. possibly two? when I decided "huh. it's on scifi. lemme watch."

now, I have canon-nazi friends who HAAAAAAAAATE ENT with the burning passion of a million suns. but dude? the show was not made for canon nazis. it was on the fraking WB (CW). Not for you! No one on the CW gives a rats ass that Malcom has a phase pistol or prototype photon torpedoes instead of Nukes, or that the Vulcan government was perfectly aware that the Romulans were Vulcanoid and played conspiracy theory. seriously.

Oddly, the storyline with T'pol and Trip and Archer and T'pol's mom who is made of win the Kir'shara and stodgy evil-vulcans and romulan conspiracy actually gave me Vulcan love. I'm weird. I admit it. but I liked that storyline. I didn't really give a rat's ass for the vulcans before that. they were too perfect.

AAAAANYWAY, ZOMG Bound was made of a ton of kinds of win. Green lady heather Orion women trying to seduce the men of enterprise and Trip being sort of confused and "uhm, no" was made of win.

a mirror Darkly: ZOMG Empress Hoshi kindly asks you to DIE IN A FIRE! ahahahaha. that was *awesome*
and dude? I LOVED the music for the opening in those two eps.

I couldn't stand the country and western rock twang they added in season 3 and 4. *gags* Sorry, not a country fan and the revamped opening made me think of that.

Alas, it was canceled before they got Shran on board as a full time cast member

*flails about the finale and its general lameness* Cop. Out.

edit: YES I am correcting spelling/spacing. I am lame and I have Teh Powah! ;)

Oooooh yay yay yay!!

I will have to take this in bullet point pieces, yay!

1) Enterprise gets BETTER AND BETTER the longer it has been cancelled. Srsly. It's so much better this way and I LOVE EET.

2) Ah, yes, well. I loooove Star Trek and know canon quite a bit and also banged my head against a lot of blunt objects during the reign of Enterprise. I sort of got over it and had fun eventually, though, because YAY YAY STAR TREK! The finale never happened, because it messed with TNG and you just don't DO that, but other than that, I can swallow their canon liberties.

3) Oh, God, I LOVE that three-parter!!!! It repaired all the canon mess that the Enterprise Vulcans were and it was just so PERFECT. I agree it made them much more interesting, and it also showed how they would go from being xenophobic militaristic asshats in Enterprise to being awesome and logical and helpful in Classic Trek. <3 <3 <3 Also: T'Pau is THE MOSTEST WINNINGEST EVER, perhaps even more winning than T'Pol's Mom, which would be really hard to do because she is AWESOME.

4) Bound was so fun!! I love Orion women. The main Orion girl played Ziyal for a bit on DS9, too!

5) The opening sequence for the Mirror eps was SO FABULOUS. OMFG. Everything about those episodes was just perfect.

6) The bongos. MUST. DIE.

7) SHRAAAAAAAN!! I love Shran! He's so cool. I want emotive antennae.
Lannalanna_kitty on December 4th, 2007 10:49 pm (UTC)
1) this is really bizarre and yet true. I wonder if it is because the episodes can be Ahhemed and watched in a big block.

2) know Canon too but it is all the TNG+ stuff (I was a wee little Lan when I watched TOS re-runs. TNG was my first real trek), so most of the Canon issues didnt even hit my radar. (I had to be ejumacated)

but there comes a point when you have to look at the series and think "hmm I can bitch and complain and whine, or I can go with it because they obviously have an agenda and they're not going to listen to me anyway"

3) Holycrap T'pau! *flails* seriously, the vulcan chick awesomeness quotient in that ep was killer and totally made me make a random Vulcan character in my online RPG group, because we had none and that clearly needed to be corrected

4) heeeee. the daydream thing amuses me more than it should I think.

7) YES! Emotive Antennae!! clearly Trek needs more Andorians.
Little Red: trek - encyclopedia - ghost_sheepmylittleredgirl on December 5th, 2007 01:06 am (UTC)
1) I think it's also the fact that you know that it can't get any worse! :)

2) Oh yes, my main canon is tewtally TNG, because I was young and impressionable when that was on the air. OMG TNG YAY. Yayyyyy. However, I have since done dutiful research of Old Trek. It's like the old testament. A lot of really wacky stuff happens and most people aren't as familiar with it. :-D

3) T'Pau is just so utterly awesome. I love that she's like "Here, let me cure your Vulcan AIDS and your crack addiction!" and T'Pol's all "MOMMEEEEEE!" and then T'Pau's all *mindmelds!* and T'Pol's all "Oooh. Logic." I love eet. And then T'Pau being all "wtf. I have to walk around with this dirty human and Surak likes him better." And it's just FANTASTIC.

4) Oh, the daydream thing makes me bang my head into walls -- not the idea of the bond, but the way it's represented a sthem just chilling in a white room somewhere, LOL. And I love Hoshi being all to T'Pol, "Um, I'm having dirty dreams about Trip and I think they might be yours." SO FUNNY.

7) MORE ANDORIANS!! And more Denobulans! And generally more awesome, yes. And more Trill, because I love those. And I really really love Bajorans, but I feel like we saw those enough so I won't complain. :-D
Lanna: Trek Girls Kickasslanna_kitty on December 5th, 2007 02:49 am (UTC)
1) that is SO true because OMG I Haaaated the show when it came out. like, a LOT. Like I gave it to the P'Jem episode because Roxanne directed it but then I was all "dude I cannot take the blatant sexualization of one of the women and it's the VULCAN and zomg Vulcan seven of nine! I know they're going to do horrible things to this character I will not get attached I will not."

But Jolene was a pretty fucking awesome Vulcan. I just questioned some of the stuff the wrote/costumed her in.

Characters)"Ooohh lets slather outerselves in decon gel! in our skivviees! :D"

me) *facepalm* OMG....Trek Writers! I hate you! WHY are you SO fucking in LOVE with 18-34 MALES.

2) ahahahahha Oh man. it SO is and that is the best metaphor EVAR. I have since been edumacated in Old Trek :D but I have fond memories of laughing at Kirk and Spock as a 5 yr old watching daytime TV. Trek was soooooo much better than Soaps.

3)YES! T'Pau cures vulcan AIDS! and she's all "HI I'm a revolutionary and practically a kid but I can kick all of your asses! Let me rule the planet and usher in the days of TOS VULCAN CANON, BITCHES!!!!! and the vulcans were like "...kay"

and oh man the walking around with the dirty human and surak liked him better XD it was made of win and I think I'll go watch that ep now.

4) see in personal!canon trip learned to make it something really fun and obnoxious like an awesome beach in tahiti or someplace he found relaxing and t'pol is all ".....there are half naked women everywhere. and alcoholic beverages served in the hollow rinds of fruit. this is not relaxing" and trip is all "yes it is." and she's all "....humans are weird."

either that or I've read too much fanfic (mostly on the triaxian silk site (and the HoT place it used to be) which has some interesting stuff but the n00b *raises hand* needs to cherry pick their way to find the good things that aren't. Rec me something!!!!)

7) YES!!! Trekfen demand more andorians! and dude? I liked the denobulans. they were kinda fun. we should have more!

I managed to catch the mirror ep of Enterprise. What got me was, there was NO crossover of characters, NO bleedthrough (that I could see) of cause/effect. It was a couple of good episodes (except I wanted Hoshi to go down), but...buh?

I guess I missed the point. Unless the point was, "ZOMG, let's flip this around and play our evil twinz for a while!" So I was left wishing for a bit more.
Little Red: trek - enterprise porn - liminallizmylittleredgirl on December 5th, 2007 12:19 am (UTC)
Well... I look at it two ways:

1) Yes, it was pointless, but it was also kind of the most awesome, tight, together thing they ever did, so I love it like crazy.

2) It served actually an AWESOME continuity purpose with classic trek because of the "Tholian Web" episode and the Defiant and the beginnings of the Terran Empire and eeeeeee. I love the Mirror Universe. I totally thought that in pt. 2 the evil Enterprise with the Defiant were going to come into OUR universe through the rift, but it didn't happen, alas.

OH, EVIL HOSHI. I love it that Hoshi & Mayweather, the most kicked-around and ignored characters, end up comandeering the universe. Kisses to that. Maaaajor kisses.
Rose Wilde-Irishrosewildeirish on December 5th, 2007 02:01 am (UTC)
1) ...true. ;) I guess it just pings a good v. evil thing with me; I'd much rather err on the side of good, and there t'ain't much good about that uni.

2) I did notice that. Though I think I was thinking, "Gee, the Tholians seem way more advanced in this universe." And yes, I was also kind of waiting for that...or something...and so I kind of felt a bit let down when it didn't happen. but still, it was a pretty kick ass two parter.

You've got a point re: Hoshi and Mayweather, but I soooooo wanted poor, abused Trip to get something for himself. And...I liked Mirror!Malcolm. Heh.

It was fun, I guess I just...wanted more. Wanted a connection that probably would've been forced, or some sort of explanation WHY they diverged. :)
thekatebeyond on December 4th, 2007 11:43 pm (UTC)
Every self-respecting Trip/T'Poler knows that she did not have sex with Sim, because she totally knew she would just be using him as a Trip substitute!

I am totally down with your Desert Island eps. I'm also a big fan of Harbinger (I'm shallow!) and Acquistion (I'm SO shallow, plus Ferengi!) For Archer/T'Pol eps (though I'm not a fan) I don't think you can beat Shadows of P'Jem. But I think my favorite episode is actually The Aenar. Shran is my favorite character aside from Trip, and I loved Jhamel. A lot.
Little Red: trek - trip/t'pol laugh - anrmylittleredgirl on December 5th, 2007 12:22 am (UTC)
Oh, but maybe she did want to use him as a Trip substitute, because she knew she might never see Trip again and this was safer than being with Trip because she could convince herself it was an act of mercy! The mental wheels, they are a-spinning.

Yay shallow!! I totally agree. Oh, gosh, everyone's going to think I'm an Archer/T'Pol fan after this post, but I'm NOT (although I... actually could go there now that I'm rewatching the series, but at the time the mere thought of it led to brain-sporking).

I love Shran. And Jhamel. LOVE LOVE LOVE.
thekatebeyond on December 5th, 2007 01:41 am (UTC)
because she knew she might never see Trip again and this was safer than being with Trip because she could convince herself it was an act of mercy

Illogical! T'Pol's feelings were for Trip. She wouldn't expect to be able to resolve those pesky feelings by using another human male. (Plus, you know, I just want it that way.)

One thing I truly loved about the show was the amount of time that Trip spent in his underwear and/or shirtless. Really, if you think of it, it's a feminist milestone. After all, the previous incarnations of Trek didn't provide equal time for women viewers in terms of eye candy. Yes, T'Pol had the skin tight outfits, but we got a lot of shirtlessness or underwear-donning for from the male characters. It was a nice balance.
miera_c: crimemiera_c on December 4th, 2007 11:46 pm (UTC)
You're gonna disown me.

I HATE T'Pol. I mean hate with the burning passion etc. hate.**

The only thing I hate more than the character herself is the "romance" between her & Trip.

Also the Mirror episodes irritated me because they took out 2 episodes in the end of the series for it rather than spending more time with the actual characters.

Yeah, disowning in my future.

** The hate is mostly the fault of the writers, though, not the actress
Little Red: peanuts - agree with memylittleredgirl on December 5th, 2007 12:56 am (UTC)

Unless you disown me first for being such a rabid fangirl, I guess?

Anyway, T'Pol is the worst Vulcan ever of all time. It drove me BATSHIT while the series was airing, especially because every time you thought you'd seen the lowest this character could go she'd be all of a sudden humping Reed's spacesuit or SHOOTING CRACK INTO HER CAROTID ARTERY. You know? Anyway, now that the series is over and no more damage can be done... I really love her and feel for her as a character who's in a terrible position having one hell of a hard time, since being the worst Vulcan ever in a noncanonical universe just plain can't be easy.

But for the sake of our mutual sockpuppetry, it's probably best if we just don't talk about it anymore. Um... shiny! Beverly Crusher! Kes! Sparky in a hotel hot tub!
miera_c: crimemiera_c on December 5th, 2007 02:17 am (UTC)

Anyway, T'Pol is the worst Vulcan ever of all time.

Yes. It's totally not Jolene's fault, though. I've read fic ( ShiShi's Reed/Sato series which gets a little out there and crazy at times but I still love) where I liked T'Pol. Which suggests to me it's the fault of the rilly rilly bad writing.

See the thing that always drove me crazy with Enterprise was I could see where they could've made something really interesting out of the things they were doing, but they never did any of that. Every opportunity to do something new or genuine or deeper with the characters, they always avoided it, it seemed to me.

I totally blame Berman for that. Actually we got into a big thing over the weekend about how big a tool Berman is (Spoilers for S4 of SGA involved there).

I do agree "Twilight" was a great episode. OK I loved it partly because it was a rare moment when we got to see Trip and Malcolm interacting in that season and being all darkside together. Also that episode I actually liked T'Pol.

My favorite episode is probably still "Shuttlepod 1" though (see icon).

Sparky in a hotel hot tub!

Yeah I could talk about that for... a very long time. ;)

I loved this show and am so sad it died before its time. When I watched all the eps again on SciFi this year, it made me realize how much Archer/T'Pol there was, but I stick with Trip/T'Pol. That ship really hooked me. That and the dog. :-)

Lisa Yaegerlisayaeger on December 5th, 2007 01:03 am (UTC)
One of my favorite scenes is with Shran and Talas when she's about to die. I loved the Andorians, and Jeffrey Combs was the perfect person to play that part. That ep had ship and angst and DEATH.

Even though this series was CHEESE in so many ways, I really loved it and thought it deserved so much more at the end. That last ep DID NOT HAPPEN.

1) "In A Mirror, Darkly"
2) "Carbon Creek"

YES!!! Those were both flawed, but better than anything else I happened to catch...and the redone opening credits for the Mirrorverse made me all kinds of happy.

That's EMPRESS Sato to you!
Little Red: trek - trip/t'pol laugh - anrmylittleredgirl on December 5th, 2007 01:11 am (UTC)
I loved all the details from the Mirror Universe episode -- how Phlox is dissecting these random animals all the time, how everyone has black hair... it's so fun.

Carbon Creek I liked because I could discount all inaccuracies as it being part of a Vulcan fairy tale that her great-grandmother told her when she was really young, so she probably interpreted details with a young and excited mind. :) And I just really love all opportunities to think of T'Pol as a child.
One Whose Honesty is Stronger Than Her Fear: flying by Abby & Rache & meamilyn on December 5th, 2007 01:32 am (UTC)
OMG yes re: Phlox and the dissection. *grin* I was mostly irked that Scott Archer looked constipated the whole time instead of calculating.

And I call "Carbon Creek" the "T'Nana" ep cuz, well, T'Pol's Nana...and the velcro makes me happy like pie...but the one thing that makes me sad is that it's a story that Diane Duane did oh-so-much-better in Strangers From the Sky.
