Also, please feel free to pass this poll link around to others (my flist is skewed toward het writers, I think). Talking about pr0n-writing today with non-fandom people makes me want more science.

"I write pr0n more often..." <-- this question, I put 'when I'm getting laid' but there was no 'getting laid or not getting laid has no effect on porn frequency' option. :(

I generally only write porn as part of porn battles or kinky memes, cause I'm lame like that, haha..
miera_cmiera_c on February 14th, 2010 03:57 am (UTC)
there was no 'getting laid or not getting laid has no effect on porn frequency' option. :(

This.

Also some of us don't have a "significant other" and have not had one during our time of writing fic.

Also also, I have no idea which perspective I write more from so I picked even split because there was no way to tell.

I feel so stupid for not including that option!!! I need to run, like, a pre-poll so my flist can chime in on the options.

Ha! That's not lame! You're probably more porn-prolific than I am, then...
Lannalanna_kitty on February 14th, 2010 02:36 am (UTC)
I've written PWP for pr0n focused 'thons and challenges. In my non-pro-specifc-challenge stuff I think people expect to read it, if you're writing anything at all shippy. I don't always do it; sometimes it just doesn't fit. Still, I've noticed on my flist at least, that smutty stuff tends to get more attention.
Little Red: sga - sw look - veronica_amylittleredgirl on February 14th, 2010 04:12 am (UTC)
Yeah, I think a lot of 'ship-centric 'thons do tend to bring out the porn in droves. I'm really not very graphic in my fic -- or, at least, I don't think I am until someone tells me I'm a great porn writer or whatever. I don't know. In a longer story, I'd rather have no porn rather than poorly-written or ill-fitting porn. In a one-off? Hit me with the pr0n, baby. ;)
entertaining in a disturbing way: Athena and Cally should kisslyssie on February 14th, 2010 02:37 am (UTC)
Er, it depends. Sometimes, I feel sort of obligated, because of endless porn battles. Sometimes... not.

And I think I tend to write from the pov of women, but I don't really remember, anymore.

Also, I've asked fandom friends (specifically guys) about certain things, like blowjobs.
Little Red: sga - teyla girls only think - lizmylittleredgirl on February 14th, 2010 04:14 am (UTC)
You are kind of the porn battle queen, I think? You contribute more to them than anyone else on my flist, I think.

I think I asked my boyfriend a porn-related question once, and went through so much embarrassed handwringing leading up to it that I never did it again! I don't even remember what the question was now. ;)

Rafiki, the crazy baboon: smutirony_rocks on February 14th, 2010 04:40 am (UTC)
Yeah, the more I get laid, the less smut I write. There is like a chart I could do that perfectly correlates this. I've now dropped from my former NC-17 days to R or PG-13 fics.

I used to write more female POV, then realized this, and then it's now pretty even between both genders. I like this about het. You can choose the gender, which allows for more variety in the experience if you so choose.
Little Red: lc - naughty idea - _toiletseatgirlmylittleredgirl on February 14th, 2010 06:45 am (UTC)
I totally found that too!! Actually, I find in general my ficwriting disappears when I'm in a relationship because all I write is romance and my characters' emotions get to wrapped up in mine and I start acting like I've been body-snatched and my boyfriend will go "!?" I'm much better about that with this boy, possibly because he is awesome and I don't want to run screaming into the hills.

I find it much easier to write male POV, and always have. As a confused tween, I thought this made me gay, even though I didn't want to be, because I liked boys, so, CONFUSION. Now I think it's more because I grew up watching Star Trek and reading Star Trek books and Imzadi was probably the source of my "how to write romance" knowledge, so... ALSO, I LOVE IT WHEN BOYS HAVE ANGST AND HELPLESSNESS AND LUST. :)

It's much more even now than it was, though, but I still prefer reading and writing male POV in smutfic. *shrugs*

Slash pr0n, severely overlooked!!

The only hetero pr0n I write is DRR, which I usually write in 3rd person, but sometimes in 1st from John's POV, which is really weird now that I think about it...
Little Red: cheer - opposite sex - foldedwingsmylittleredgirl on February 14th, 2010 07:52 am (UTC)
I wanted people to post related to slash pr0n, too! Because the question of whether you write from the POV of a woman or a man is especially relevant in those cases, I would think, because the whole pairing you choose to write is dependent on your comfort level writing that gender.

HA.

That is also true. I'm honestly surprised that my first pornwriting didn't happen in DS9 Season 7, since I crushed on both Julian and Ezri so hard at the same time. (Possibly because the whole sequence of scenes relating to them falling and love and hooking up was awkward as hell? WE IGNORE THAT.)

I will happily settle instead for reading yours. *g*
Little Red: aw - cj/d *hugz* - natushkamylittleredgirl on February 14th, 2010 10:38 am (UTC)
That counts as filling out the poll! <3

I also used to think I could not write pr0n at all and didn't think I ever would until there was some peer pressure and some abandoning of all personal shame. (I practiced my pornwriting skills on a drawerfic in which Elizabeth and Jack did a lot of sex after "New Order," and Sam was like "!!" and Weir was like "I am not yet characterized at all, so I might as well be a bit dorky and a fan of casual sex!" and Jack was all "OKAY, I HAVE A LOT OF ANGST FROM BEING FROZEN AND IT'S NICE TO GET LAID" and I still love the idea of that fanfic but I can't bring myself at all to reread it. First-time smut is scary! Jack and Elizabeth totally did it though.)

Can I just tick the TICKYBOX option?

I wrote pr0n once, and it pained me so much that I swore I'd never do it again (er, except I did once or twice and it was still bad)

er...can I fill out the latter half of the poll?

I answered a few questions, but then I realized my ficography is probably way too small a sample size to mean anything for your results. For the first question, the answer is really "Sometimes/It depends." Like, on my mood, and the author, and esp. the pairing and how much I want them to Do It. I got stuck on the second question, because I've written sex scenes that were stronger than PG-13, but nothing I'd ever call pr0n.
