please help me, external internet decision-making brain
chaos_thon peeps, general enablers, sanity-savers: I need advice.

I started writing a I'm dropping out of chaos_thon because it took me sixteen years to finish the other fics I owed and I've completely missed the boat and DAMMIT IT LOOKED LIKE THE FUNNEST THING EVER post. Then I noticed that they're kind of doing extensions over there, so maybe I haven't totally missed the boat, but all the late dates are taken, so I still sort of have? But the mods all like me?

I finished my help_haiti fics yesterday, so I haven't touched my Chaosfic. I still completely adore my show and characters, but my plot is missing... um, most of itself (ugh, who would have thought spy fics needed COHERENT PLOT), so I'm kind of at square two, if not square one. I can't even figure out what city to base my company headquarters in! I might have to invent one! And if/when I write it, I'd kind of like to write it well.

Poll #1541838 The Wrong Sort Of Chaos, Actually

What should I dooooo?

Drop out of the 'thon to avoid unmeetable deadlines/stress/massive humiliation and write the story on my own time/NaNoChaosMo.
2(16.7%)
Stay in the 'thon and write 5,000 words of non-plotty character-based ficcishness in my show's universe, which I could probably do by the deadline, but is kind of cheating and might not be actually allowed in the rules?
3(25.0%)
Stay in the 'thon, start the pilot novelization I was planning to write, fail spectacularly!
1(8.3%)
Bag the whole thing and write Second Chances, already, since that was supposed to be my novel for the year, and I should strike while the Stargate iron is hot.
3(25.0%)
State-mandated omgapoll option.

I'm useless! That being said, work on what you feel like working on. NO HUMILIATION NECESSARY. Plus, you know your brain is only going to let you work on what it wants to work on.

Alyssa thinks you should go buy some poster board, glue, glitter, and markers.

Hilariously, I was actually going to do that tonight, but was too lazy to make it to the store! My skills-training therapy thing uses a lot of acronyms, and I thought it might be convenient to make a poster to hang up. IN HONOR OF ALYSSA.

Dude. The freaky brain-share thing may be somewhat dormant, but ALYSSA BRIDGES ALL GAPS. And/or rocks the craft store like you wouldn't believe. She totally took up crochet.

Glitter makes me feel better.

Also hilarious: I'm reading a shed-ton of JAG fic, so I giggle at Catherine Bell in your icon. That woman has aged beautifully, NO LIE.

SHE REALLY HAS!

I should get Army Wives on netflix or something. I never watched past the first season. It probably got all cracked out and overdone...? It seemed like it would have HAD to do that. Either that or it turned into a lesbian orgy (but a patriotic orgy!), which was the other obvious conclusion.

Didn't we decide that Alyssa found Sam and Jack completely hilarious and mostly hung out with them due to friendship and a general sense that if she walked off she'd miss something more entertaining than most Broadway musicals combined?

If not, we totally should have.

And you've got a point there. I caught bits and pieces of second season and kind of went O.o for good chunks of it. It really should have gone for the (patriotic!) lesbian orgy.

Stay in, make the attempt! Having anything written is totally a Win (and if IR and gravity_disagree then I shall personally give you an "I win!" banner all your own. or something.) AND you have Things Figured Out! maybe even a city base of operations! Because you have written something you will know a) what works b) what doesn't work, which is equally important.

You can totally write something *well* and not be done. If you wait for The Perfect Writing Session and for genius to flow from you fingers, each word perfectly placed and precisely done and the whole thing could be carved into stone on the first try? you're gonna be here till after Ragnarok.

Sit down. See what happens. If you don't have the full pilot (and remember it's JUST the pilot) then you've got 5,000 words you didn't have before. *waves pompoms* You can do it!!

c.c I have like, 1k words.

WORD TO LANNA.

WE DO LIKE YOU!

Ask Gravity to grab a latter date. Then sit down and be your awesome self!

YAYYYY I like to be liked!! :)

However. *OMGFLAILS* Because my poll came out all even! I might have to make this decision ON MY OWN!!

AaaaaAAAAaaaaA.

*wails and gnashes teeth a bit*

So... both you and IR voted for me to write non-plotty fic... is that allowed, though? Weren't we supposed to write the pilot, as, like, a pilot?

Also: what kind of a poll doesn't actually decide anything for me?? My flist are very egalitarian in their voting.

YES! I'm frustrated because I can totally see the whole series plotted out in my head... but without some major plot details. You know? I know what happens when, emotionally, and the sort of pacing of the plot unfolding, but I'm still not quite sure what they DO as corporate spies or what the other company does and there should be gunfights and explosions, but apparently I can't just have those by themselves without a plotted reason for them to be there. ;)

Enhanced character study could be cool. I could do... a Collected Stories thing, perhaps? I feel like if I wrote 5,000 words of atmosphere I might then be able to start a real pilot.

Also, you're so awesome that you are writing things and progressing so well with it!! :-D

I heart you!! You are so fabulous. :-D

Oh, I know, although that's a good thing for me to hear (a lot). I think in this case I more meant "not crap" rather than "well." Genius doesn't really flow from my fingers anymore in dramatic lightning-strike writing sessions... the price I pay for chemically balanced mental health!! (Also, when I wrote out of mania, the run-on sentences and commas were out of control.)

I am so glad you have 1K words! Because, um, I felt like I was probably 10K words behind everyone in a 5K challenge. O.O
