on a clear night, you can almost see October...
Well, in honor of the last day of regular baseball season, let's see where everyone stands, eh? (And see if I can figure out how to make polls)

Do you want the Red Sox to win the World Series this year?

YES!! Reverse the curse! This is our yeeeah, baby!!
8(21.1%)
... yes! ... but I'm also afraid that it will kill my beloved Red Sox fandom. What will we do with ourselves when there is no next season?
1(2.6%)
Eh. I don't really care, and I think Little Red might cry otherwise, so, sure! GO SOX!
13(34.2%)
NO. I'm a Yankees fan and I hate you. I'm wearing pinstripes *right now.*
0(0.0%)
No -- I'm rooting for another team in the playoffs at this point.
2(5.3%)
Well, I would, but I'm afraid of the apocalypse.
5(13.2%)
Well... I support the Sox in theory, but I live in Boston and fear that the riots will destroy the transportation infrastructure.
2(5.3%)
I don't watch football. ... do the Red Sox play football?
7(18.4%)

I totally want to create a geeks-for-fanatical-red-sox-or-other-sports-fandom support group lj community. Stop me?

Totally with you. But I suppose it's the mark of a True Red Sox Fan that we are willing to give up this thing we love so much in order to GO ALL THE WAY...?

Re: wisdomeagle?
*grin*

There's only one thing I really, really hope. And that's the Sox win sometime in my dad's lifetime. He's fifty-four, and has been a fan since he was in college (tho' he's not a lifer... he was a *shudder* Yankees fan when he was a boy). If we get it sometime before he dies... that's all I wish.

But truly. Red Sox fandom is like a bloody religion... and if we win, where's the need for faith?

*is such a dork*

I picked the one that would stop you from crying because I'm nice like that, but part of me still wants to check the "the red socks do play football/hockey/lacrosse" one because, well, yeah. My level of knowledge is about there.

Yeah... but being a Patriots fan wasn't defined by being cursed, as in some ways being a Sox fan is. I think that WHEN WE WIN there will be this terrified feeling of "OMG NOW WHAT?" until the next season starts, at which point we'll settle down and become just as crazy as New England sports fans always are. Unless the world explodes. Or, half-explodes, as the Cubs still haven't won the pennant...

I'll root for the Sox if they're playing anyone but the Angels, but at the present moment it looks like the division series will be Boston/Anaheim and Minnesota/New York.

The Curse is the Curse of the Bambino (i.e., Babe Ruth). The Sox haven't won since we traded him to the Yankees back in like, 1918 or so. The Yankees, otoh, have won more times than there have been years since then. Obviously, the supernatural must be involved.

My understanding of it is that Babe Ruth actually stood on the pitcher's mound (or... stood somewhere) and cursed the Sox either to never again win the world series or not win it for the rest of the century, depending on who you ask.

And he was sold so the manager could finance the musical "no no nanette" on broadway, or something equally ridiculous.

These things can be forgiven. ;)

I really do appreciate you not pointing and mocking me in my journal for all of my recent "OMGREDSOX!!!1!" or "*WAILS* on Red Sox!" things...

Heh. Was tempted to answer the "football" option, but of course had to complain about traffic :) Although, I have to admit, being a Bostonian I kinda sorta also want them to win. But don't tell anybody...

Well, I did put the traffic thing in there just for you ;)

Although, I have to admit, being a Bostonian I kinda sorta also want them to win.

I think you'd kinda have to be superhuman to *not* get caught up in things at least a little when you live right there.
