and I...
I seriously love LJ's autosave draft feature, but it makes it annoyingly evident how dramatically my moods change from one hour to the next!

So the reader's digest version of recent goings-on:

Life: I feel like things, mostly things in my head, are diligently trying to come apart. Any move I make in any direction will only make things worse, so I'm... sitting back and waiting, and coping, and praying, and watching my brain do what it does. It's lonely, and it kind of sucks, but it could be so much worse.

Religion: Sister and I have been defined at long last, and are apparently "New Agers." We learned this because we FINALLY went to the Christian Supply store (oh, HILARITY, there's a whole Emo Jesus clothing section, I KID YOU NOT), and there was a book section on "other religions." There's a book series -- called the Zondervan Guide to Cults -- about why to fear and how to "effectively witness" to people from other faiths, basically. We read the ones on Buddhism and general Eastern Religions and "New Age." We love these sorts of things, because, while well-intentioned (in a manner of speaking), they're often ridiculously inaccurate (BUDDHISM = NOT A CULT; HINDUISM = not a "contemporary fad religion"; etc). They also advise people to use the most illogical arguments. To paraphrase a half-page 'role-playing' section: "So your NEW AGE beliefs claim that there is no one right interpretation of the truth, and everyone has their own individual experience of reality?" "Yesh, that's right." "THEN YOU ARE ENDORSING PEDOPHILIA!" "... I'm totally not!" "YES YOU ARE. NOW EMBRACE YOUR SAVIOR." NO. LIE. I kind of want to buy the whole series.

TV... giveth and the TV taketh away! On the giveth side, we have two happy nontrainwrecked episodes of Voyager: "Alice," in which Kate Heightmeyer looks totally and completely different though the credits assure me that it's her, and "Riddles," which is just fabulous. We segued nicely from that Star Trek: Television For Women, The Tuvok Story moment to a Lifetime movie in which the cigarette-smoking man from X-Files lurks around in alleys and smokes threateningly and then hires Daniel Jackson to fake an Irish brogue and rape a supreme court nominee. Why? I don't know, something about revenge and blackmail, I was too busy hiding under a blanket. I may never watch SG-1 again. *FEARS*

Fandom: Should use more cut-tags. I'm just saying. I was the last person on the planet to know such-and-such spoilers for next season of Atlantis, and now I KNOW, and, well, I HAVE BEEN FLAILING ALL WEEK about whether I should comment on their livejournals and ask politely and risk yelling all-caps and mockery, or filter them quietly and risk MISSING the post where they save Pierce Brosnan from a burning car wreck or just... post passive-aggressively to my own journal! *sigh*

Your icon reminds me of the good ole Cream Cult days... *wistful sigh*

LOL @ your description of Michael Shanks' latest movie. I can't believe I missed it! Grr...

And yes, fandom should use more cut-tags. You should have asked politely and risked all-caps and mockery! Better that than missing the Pierce Brosnan rescue, anyway... :P

I'm sure Lifetime will air it again! And again, and again. For your continuing terrified pleasure.

OMG CREAM CULT! It took me all morning to remember what you meant. Ahahaha. Good times.

I'm normally pretty outspoken about "HI, plz cut-tag this!" but everyone seemed to be looking to whale on someone, and I ran away IN FEAR. Plus I wasn't feeling particularly polite at that moment, either. ;)
live the life you've imagined: Collidecalleigh_j on April 10th, 2007 09:00 am (UTC)
Oooh, a religion - sounds like fun. I've looked at books like that and they just blow your mind. You've gotta ask - who the hell actually writes them, and what do *they* believe if this is the kinda stuff they come out with?

I watched a Lifetime movie the other day with Hillary Swank, Elliot from Scrubs, and Zack from Saved By The Bell in it. It was all about Hillary Swank wanting to join a sorority and her best friend dying through peer pressure and the ending was just insane. Never watched a Lifetime movie before, and not entirely sure I'd watch another one.

Cut-tags - should be embraced by all. I'm paranoid about using them, even given my LJ readership of about zero, ever since I got spoiled for the whole of the last season of Alias *and* most of Season Two of Lost in one post. Also, I'm *trying* to stay unspoiled for Atlantis, 'cause I just don't wanna know, but it's very difficult, even with cut-tags and spoilers and stuff, 'cause the info is just sitting there, and I could read it so easily...

As for life...well, I don't really know how to help with that one. I think I know how you feel, but mainly if you ever need to rant/rave/whatever, I'm absolutely always around. However, watching my brain do what it does sounds like some kind of mad out of body experience where you actually get to see your brain light up and stuff as different parts work. No? That's not it? Damn.
Havoc: janet is goofyhavocthecat on April 10th, 2007 02:19 pm (UTC)
I watched about half an hour or so of a lifetime movie with Teryl Rothery playing a schoolteacher. And I remember she was talking with another schoolteacher, and they were pondering whether to turn a classically stereotypical Sexually Harassing Male Coach And Teacher in. And then he sexually harassed Teryl and I spent the whole time going, "Janet would kick his ass!" And then I turned it off, because, UGH.

Also, there was the Daniel-and-Cadman movie. *cough* Er, I mean Michael Shanks and Jaime Ray Newman movie. That was just plain AWFUL. It was like "Ghost" meets "Sleepless in Seattle" meets a really sucky scriptwriter.

How the HELL did this network ever stumble over the awesome that is Blood Ties?

Hahaha. Yeah, one reason I don't go in Christian bookshops - they think being a Unitarian is all about arrogance and deciding you know best. Be serious people, every individual's experience of faith is different and the Bible is a secondary/tertiary source in historical terms... *rolls eyes*

With the whole cut-tags thing... a lot of it is just forgetfulness brought on by absolute fury, IMO. I'm not defending their spoiling you, just saying that's probably why. It's one big reason I haven't been posting much, because every time I think about what's going on in the fandom I get contagious tl;dr. =P

I just DON'T GET why everyone is so threatened by everyone else's faiths! But I'm a crystal-worshipping treehugger blinded by astrology and Eastern "fad" religions, so what do I know?

I know it's forgetfulness or lack of caring brought on by fury, but it's... just... it makes me feel disrespected and sad and BABY KITTENS WEEP! I'm not DONE with my squeee yet!

They think Hinduism is a "contemporary fad religion"?!?!?!?!?!? Wow. I mean, I grew up with extraordinarily wacky conservative evangelicals. I'm related to extraordinarily wacky conservative evangelicals. I was forced, in my more vulnerable years, to shop at Christian bookstores. Yet still, I am shocked, even though I probably shouldn't be.

And I've heard nothing but alarming things about Michael Shanks's latest Lifetime movie, so I'm rather glad I don't get Lifetime--because last night I was brain-dead enough that I might have watched it.

*hugs*

In their defesne... OH, I can't really defend that! Hinduism pwnz you, n00bz!

However, I can only imagine they meant that it's contemporary and faddish in the west for people to up and convert after the Beatles found a guru. I can only assume.

You know, the movie? Wasn't so terrible. It was actually a diverting few hours, for a Lifetime movie, and deliciously scary, though the ending was a bit heavy-handed and it wasn't a real big surprise that the cancer man was duplicitous and EVIL because I've watched the X-Files before.

Kate Heightmeyer plays an alien on The Outer Limits. I had to hit IMDB to make sure it was her, because she had freaky contacts and dark red hair, which, at the time, I'd never seen on her before.

She was much younger on Voyager, which probably explains it. But still! Perhaps she's like Nicole Kidman and can morph her appearance on cue?

Changeling! Changeling! Changeling!

OMG, the new Outer Limits is freaking scary! Talk about scary actor crossovers. I don't think I ever quite got over Doggett and Ezri as weird alien prison lovers...
