Help, I need a tourniquet for my soul.
Army Wives is a terrible, terrible show.

In news that doesn't make you want to pretend you never knew me, TECHknitting might be the greatest wealth of bloggy knitting knowledge ever to grace the intarweb. I consider myself a reasonably competent knitter, and I didn't even know I needed to know most of these things. *flops on knitting altar*

YOU NEED TO GO SEE NANCY DREW. You do. You TOTALLY DO. You will squeal and flail and LOVE EET.

OMG YAY! I totally will have to! :) :)

I know. OH ARMY WIVES. But I was primed for it by -- and this is even more shameful -- an afternoon of actually watching lifetime movies. For no reason other than that they were on and we recognized actors from other things, but seriously.
Gena Marie: Kavan--blue eyesgenamarie on June 18th, 2007 05:42 am (UTC)
Omg! Yes! Someone else I know is watching Army Wives. 'Tis strangely addictive...

...and it's Lifetime, so I went in with the appropriate expectations. But, oh, I have been crushing on Brian McNamara (who plays Kim Delaney's husband) for *years*!

And I shall have to look at TechKnitting a little closer. But I am oddly reluctant to get too into knitting "stuff" on the web--it quickly becomes "Eeek! Too much information--cannot take it all in!"

Working on even more shawls for Christmas presents, though, so glee :)

Sister and I each have a Lifetime Original Series to be mocked for (she watches Blood Ties non-ironically, I watch Army Wives).

Brian McNamara! Where do I know him from? Because I've totally seen him (and EVERYONE ELSE in this show) before...

Oh, this blog might overload you pretty quick, but it's a good resource to have bookmarked if you're ever into seeing where you might be headed next, once everyone you know has shawls. :)
Gena Marie: Lorne--Lovegenamarie on June 18th, 2007 07:32 pm (UTC)
Brian has been in LOTS of things in guest spots. Hmm, checking IMDB...omg! He was even in ST:VOY! (Soooo didn't remember that!)

But I remember him from waaaaay back on a 2-part Disney pilot called "Earth Star Voyager." I taped it back in 1988 and watched it again just a few months ago. have been crushing on him ever since!

she watches Blood Ties non-ironically

*blink* *blink* And the problem with that would be...?
babylil on June 18th, 2007 08:57 am (UTC)
I'm am absolutely LOVING Army Wives, and you can't imagine how happy I am to see somebody else on my flist mention it! It's either fantastically bad or fantastically good, I'm not sure which, but either way it's fantastic *g*

*waits impatiently for an episode 3 torrent*
Little Red: b5 - ivanova oven - crazybeemylittleredgirl on June 19th, 2007 01:47 am (UTC)

It's like... good lord, the scriptwriting is so terrible! But the characters would be so fabulous if they weren't saying retarded things! SO I AM TORN.
babylil on June 20th, 2007 05:58 pm (UTC)
But, but, Sally Pressman as Roxy is so, so wonderful! I don't care if she's cheesy, she's wonderful *loves*

*ahem* Sorry 'bout that. But oooooh, knitting geekery. (Though to be honest, I knit in a style that's called combined because it's a combination of Western-style knit stitches and Eastern-style purl stitches, and it kind of drives me batty that there's no good technical resource on the web for that style. It took me forever to learn that I had to reverse the process of ssk and k2tog because my stitch orientation is backwards, for example. I suppose I could put something together myself, but eek.)
Little Red: knit - my purlsmylittleredgirl on June 19th, 2007 01:48 am (UTC)
*nodnod* I know about combination knitting... (or combined knitting, I guess, as the kids in the know call it...?). It does not surprise me at all that you would enjoy doing things contrary to the mainstream. ;)

I too was enraptured with love for the kitchener stitch history. AND OMG. AND A SMARTER WAY TO WRITE CHART SHORTHAND THAN WHAT I WAS DOING. OMG. I love eet.

And hear I thought Army Wives would be one of those shows that I watch and love alone and never admit to others...

It's a guilty pleasure. And am I the only one who is oddly seeing femslash potential amongst it all?
Little Red: cheer - cleaning - foldedwingsmylittleredgirl on June 19th, 2007 01:50 am (UTC)
Re: *giggles*
OMG! Please, let there be femmeslash!

And how could you be the only one! Women... left aloooooone... togeeeether...

I think I just disturbed myself. I'm going to go pick up my sister from the light rail now.
Triciatriciabyrne1978 on June 19th, 2007 02:28 am (UTC)
Re: *giggles*
I'm not completely straight with the names yet, but I totally see femslash action sizzling between Katherine Bell and Kim Delaney's characters.

Have fun and don't disturb yourself too much!

Re: *giggles*
YES. YES. I just watched Episode 3, and it is kind of ridiculous! There is even talk of collegiate sexperimentation and they kind of almost really needed to make out drunkenly in a convertible.

OH. And I really love their marriages too. Because Kim Delaney? And her husband? EEE THE CUTE OMG. (Oooh, I looked up the name FOR YOUUUU, and she is Claudia Joy, wheee. Except she's not Southern. How did she get two names up North?? Maybe she had to take on an extra one when she married a soldiah. Catherine Bell is Denise. There. Go porn now.)

So it must needs be open, non-exclusive femmeslash, okay?

CRAP. Before the week is out I'm totally going to be writing weird orgies for this show. *headdesk*
Triciatriciabyrne1978 on June 19th, 2007 02:50 pm (UTC)
Re: *giggles*
Well, do we KNOW she's not southern? I know she was on her way to graduate from Harvard with honors when she just upped and dropped out (supposedly because she was swept away by love - but of course it never said love with her hubby), but I don't remember if it stated where she was from.

I'm going to have to watch them all again.

You're such an enabler.... I love it.

You're going to have me writing drunken femslash between the two of them when I really should be working on one of my ficathon entries.
Little Red: fridge magnets pr0n - josephidesmylittleredgirl on June 19th, 2007 03:42 pm (UTC)
Re: *giggles*
She doesn't sound southern! I don't know.

I think by "swept away by love" she means "knocked up," by the way, because if she and her awesome husband have been married 17 years and their daughter is about to graduate from high school... I sense a sekrit shotgun wedding that will be revealed at a later time. ;)
Triciatriciabyrne1978 on June 19th, 2007 07:00 pm (UTC)
Re: *giggles*
Very true, she doesn't have the thick southern drawl... but to be honest, since moving down south, I have to say that there are a lot of people that have been born and raised down here that do not have the southern drawl. Maybe her time up north for college/law school helped her mellow it out?

And I agree, it's more likely a 'knocked up' with a shotgun wedding. Though I think that there's a bit more to it, cause if she already knew she'd be graduating with honors, chances are there was something a bit more imminent than a pregnancy that could probably have been hidden for the first few months till after graduation.

I'm sorry, but I had to take this picture and show you. I hope you don't suffer any adverse effects. It's some advertizement hanging on the train for some manga- The Japanese says, "If he has sex, he turns into a zombie!?"

I hate you.

Or would it only happen if I had sex with someone in a manga??

Roxychichiri on June 19th, 2007 08:42 am (UTC)

I think it's just in that manga world. you should be safe.

Army Wives is a terrible, terrible show.

Is it really? Drat. I've been intending to give it a try in support of Susanne Daniels and her plan for a Shiny!New!Lifetime, since it includes doing right by Blood Ties. Plus, I cheerfully watched Quest of the Delta Knights for Brigid Brannagh. Twice.

Y'know, I don't think I actually believe in "guilty pleasures." Life's too short not to take it where it comes.
nenya_kanadka on June 30th, 2007 11:27 am (UTC)
Heee. I too have been seduced by that show. And, apropos the thread above, yes there should be femslash. (But Joan the soldier is the hottest of the women. *guh*)
