*shrieks*
THE SOX WIIIIIIN THE PENNANNNNNNNT!!!!! OMFG!!!

*dances around in crazy delight*

I'd all-caps about that some more, but my application for doggie adoption was APPROVED and we are going to go meet the darling little Taiwanese puparoo on Sunday! I have validation that I might not suck as a doggie owner! And now that The Curse Has Been Lifted and she was not adopted out from under mi nose before I could even meet her (which: YAY! People are adopting doggies! *claps excitedly for world*)... pictures!

Kind of not the best pictures, but I think the general idea is that they took a German Shepherd, shrunk her in the wash, and then stuck her in a laundry basket, while she goes "... I am not entirely sure about this flashy thing you're flashing at my face." (except she says all that in Mandarin Chinese, natch).

I love it. A pocket-sized Shepherd. Personally, I think she's saying, "I'd like to sit in my basket and watch Star Trek with Little Red and her sister and the geek!rats!" Don't you?

Now that I've been validated as OMG, People With Credentials Will Totally Let Me Have My Very Own Dog, I'm a little nervous. Okay, very nervous. Because if I totally love this little doglette upon meeting her I just... omg! Will I be a good enough doggie master?

GOOOOO REEEEEDDD SOOOOOOXXXX!!!!

She is sooo adorable, and she got this adorable pouty eyes. And the ears... *fails* Somehow she reminds me of John. :P
Little Red: trek - porthos - mediemylittleredgirl on September 29th, 2007 08:54 pm (UTC)
LOL. She probably reminds you of John because she looks like a Shepherd, silly. ;)

Oh she is so CUTE! You will be a wonderful doggie master. What will you call her?
Little Red: trek - porthos - mediemylittleredgirl on September 29th, 2007 08:53 pm (UTC)
Awww, your icon is adorable!

I don't know yet what we're going to call her. Her temporary name is Kiwi (at the shelter). We like the name Laika, after the Russian mutt who was First Mutt In Space, but for this doggie we might call her Kitty (because it's close to Kiwi, and because Sister really wanted a cat, and because it's such an entertaining doggie-name. And then we can say "heeeeere kitty kitty kitty!" We once had a cat that answered to "heeeere fishy fishy fishy!" so it would be a theme).

We'll have to meet her first. :)

She's lovely!

Please (please, please) feel free to email me for any suggestions, advice, etc, that you might want. Make sure the ratlets are all safe (because you may not know this girl's prey-drive instincts for a while). And know that the puplet's personality for the first days to weeks will probably not be her normal personality.

Any idea how old she might be?

Okay, I'll stop here for now. Let me know if you want more. :^D
Little Red: trek - porthos - mediemylittleredgirl on September 29th, 2007 08:51 pm (UTC)
OMG, I totally will love all your adviceness. :) It's been a few years since I've trained a new doggie, after all.

The ratlets will all be safe, for sure. If the first meet goes well, we're going to do a second meet in our place to see whether all the rats in cages will drive her completely insane.

She's about a year old, but because she's been traumatized and shipped from Taiwan (!!) and is scared of new places, I expect it'll be a while before we see her true colours.

More! More! More!

Oh, she looks just like my Abby did when she was a puppy! A German Shepherd for apartment dwellers! I'm sure she'll be a great companion, and that you will be an awesome owner.
Little Red: trek - porthos - mediemylittleredgirl on September 29th, 2007 08:48 pm (UTC)
Hee! I love the compromise aspect of this puplet -- Sister wants a little doggie, I want a German Shepherd, and someone waved a mix-o-matic machine and produced this little muttnik!
ornithoptercatornithoptercat on September 29th, 2007 03:16 pm (UTC)
Aw! Big ears = cute!

Is she still a puppy or is she full grown? Because if she's a puppy she might turn into a full-size Shepard.
Little Red: trek - porthos - mediemylittleredgirl on September 29th, 2007 08:47 pm (UTC)
Hahaha, she's about a year old, so almost fully grown. :) No surprise full-grown-Shepherdness in her. But it'll be cute if people always guess that she's a puppy! :)

I LOVE big-eared dogs. LOVE. It's, like, a requirement.

WHY MUST THE METS TORTURE ME SO?

I'm glad for the Sox (and the Cubs - always nice to see them in first) but my stupid Mets FELL OUT OF FIRST PLACE FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE MAY WITH TWO GAMES LEFT IN THE SEASON!!!!!!!!

Eee! *twitters with happy* I really hope the doggie isn't neurotic and that she likes us. That will be super perfect. *happies*
thekatebeyond on September 29th, 2007 05:49 pm (UTC)
That is possibly the cutest little dog I've ever seen. She's ADORABLE, and therefore just right for you, as you are ADORABLE too, to a capslocky degree.

I'm sure you will be a great doggie master. Just remember that training is for the dog's benefit. A lot of new owners feel bad telling their dog 'no' or punishing them if they do something bad (biting, chewing, jumping), but if the dog doesn't learn proper behavior, no one will ever be able to love on it like they want to. If you need to, get an obedience course.

(Sorry for the lecture, but I know a dog who is suffering because its owner refused to train it. Now it lives outside with no company, because it can't be trusted not to 'play' with people by biting and jumping.)

YAY! New PUPPY!
Little Red: trek - porthos - mediemylittleredgirl on September 29th, 2007 08:45 pm (UTC)
Haha, I have no problem with training doggies. :) It's so fun! I totally find it weird that some people think it's "cruel." It's not like you're abusing the dog, you're just telling her what's right and wrong. Dogs have the same need for "creative expression" and "autonomy" as children do, you know? So I'm not crushing her little spirit by making her sit while I prepare her dinner or teaching her not to pull on the leash.

That's such a sad story about that other dog. :( It happens to WAY too many dogs, and that's so awful. You'd think that they'd take the time to train it NOW (contrary to popular belief, you can teach old dogs new tricks, it just takes longer) since the no-training has been proved to be a Bad Idea. :( :( :(

I'm so excited about this potential doggie!! She's a total mutt from Taiwan, of all places. My sister wants a little doggie, and I wanted a German Shepherd, so I love the idea of a pocket-sized Shepherd-looking muttnik. :)
