Oh, my gosh!
swawards: I really have no idea what to say.

If I did, it would sound kind of like: "Really? Really? ME!? Um... why?" (I'm totally assuming that I'm not the only person on livejournal to have asked that question upon seeing my name in the results, since I hardly posted anything in 2008. If I'm right about that, um, sorry.)

I... um... I've been feeling quite a bit like a talentless hack at life this year, then I saw this (weeks late -- seriously, that alone makes me unworthy), and had a little cry at my desk.

It's really awesome to be part (even if I'm sometimes absent) of a community full of writers and people I really admire. Seriously. I live to have the gift anr has with turns of phrase, the relentless pr0n-writing fingers of miera_c, the quirky fun ideas of aj (who very rightfully won Best Darkfic for "Dolce Vita," in one of her rare breaks from quirky fun THAT TRAUMATIZED ME FOR LIFE), the perseverence of melyanna in the series and novels she pens, the heretofore-unknown-to-me Mad Organizational Ski11z of irony_rocks... oh my gosh, I could go on.

Thanks. I am full of squeee and gratitude. <3

*hugs you to pieces* I got a bit breathless when "First Ten Years" won its award. I was all *flail* and pleased like an Aunt or something.

(And dude, I'm surprised I recovered from Dolce Vita. *shudders*)
Little Red: sga - sw happiness - jeepnymylittleredgirl on October 10th, 2008 06:01 pm (UTC)
Seriously! That went where ordinary darkfics fear to tread. Well done, A.j.!

You were so very importantly involved in "The First Ten Years." THE BROTHERS! DADDY WEIR! Oh, love.

I think I should do my own fanfic awards. Like, "the academy of one votes that THESE PEOPLE ARE AWESOME!"

But the awards should be completely random and specific. "Best Product Placement." (That one would have to go to that fruit-of-the-loom fic, which might have been A.j.'s?) "Best Use of a Monkey." (That category's wide open, I think.) ETC.

I'm totally assuming that I'm not the only person on livejournal to have asked that question upon seeing my name in the results, since I hardly posted anything in 2008.

I think it's a safe bet that no one else thought that. Your awards were very much deserved. =)

You're so much massive sweetness. *hugs you* (At Starbucks today? They gave me a bagel with peanut butter in a packet, like you get salad dressing in! It was very weird.)

(And really, regardless of my own issues, it seemed like a good bet to assume there was wank involved in fic awards -- no matter which awards they are -- so put all together it seemed likely?)

I'm so happy for you! I've heard from lots of people that running awards can be really emotionally draining because of all the abuse, so I worried for you when you took this on. But you have won everyone over with your superior WINNINGNESS.

Isn't it crazy how that image in our icons is, like, the most lasting Sparky image? No wonder some of us were sold from day one.

John totally has mixed fantasies about her in suits. On the one hand, it's weird, because she only wears them on Earth, and it's just weird being on Earth and seeing her being politically manhandled by all these IOA bigwigs.

On the other hand, they're damned hot.

It's a problem.

Oh, oh, it so does!

Elizabeth usually asks John to repeat himself for only two reasons: One, she assumed he's talking to himself and wasn't listening, or two, she wants to emphasize exactly how strange the words coming out of his mouth really sound.

"'It's probably the dry-cleaning'?"

It's possible he was only talking to himself, because he looks a little surprised. He shrugs. "You know."

She's pretty sure she doesn't know. She can't think of a single thing he might have broken that would be fixed by dry-cleaning. "John? I'm starting to think you breathed a little too much fresh mountain air last week." They've been back on Atlantis for four days now, but are still playing catch-up with everything they missed in only two days away.

He gives her a lazy sort of ha, ha look. "I was just thinking..." he twitches one shoulder, like his neck is out. "Our laundry facilities here are pretty limited."

He makes a good point -- they've been here three years and still haven't figured out how Ancients cleaned their clothes -- but why he's making that point eludes her.

But then, she's long learned that thinking too much about why John Sheppard says or does certain things can only lead to madness.

"And you're bemoaning the lack of dry-cleaning?" Madness or not, she has never been good at just letting things go. She has to work on that. "What, you want to wear your dress uniform more often?"

He looks disgusted. "Thanks, but twice a year is more than enough. Forget it."

She returns her attention to the status report in front of her and tries not to sneak too many glances over at him, to see if his face will betray anything about where his train of thought is likely to head next.

"I was just thinking, you never wear civvies anymore."

"There's not much point in- wait, weren't you the one who was all in favor of that three years ago?" The exact conversation had been something a little less about favor and a little more about John Sheppard struggling with his new boundaries and insinuating not-too-subtly that the military personnel weren't always going to respond very well to a leader in a blouse and designer jeans.

She can tell John remembers the conversation, because he winces a little bit. "Yeah. Well, I didn't really expect you to do it. Before Atlantis, you used to wear suits and stuff all the time."

"You were right, though -- there's no reason to stand on a business dress code all the way out here. Believe me, I was just as glad to get back to this galaxy and get rid of the pumps and nylons the other day as you were to get out of your dress uniform."

He shrugs and says "I suppose," like that's the end of their very bizarre conversation.

It's another minute before she realizes that she should let this one go, really, but she isn't going to. "Wait, why were you thinking about my clothes, anyway?"

He doesn't answer, looking very intently -- or pretending to look -- at the report on his laptop screen. "Did you see this? McKay authorized tapping the energy conduits in the North Pier without checking with Sotelo first."

She gives him a glare, but he ignores it. Really, she's probably not going to get an answer.

The fact that she even asked the question is...

Maybe she's going mad faster than she thought.

That is weird. When I want peanut butter to go I just take a bunch of Reeses and eat the chocolate off of them. Easy. Portable. Tasty.

I didn't hear about any wank on these awards, actually. IR ran a very tight ship, and (at the risk of mixing my metaphors) it seemed to go off without a hitch.
