Sucking More Than Is Mathematically Possible Is A Talent
Mainstreet.com recently busted out a report on the "financial happiness" of each state, based on debt, income, unemployment and foreclosures.

In a nation of only fifty states, Oregon is #51.

This might explain the dude in the business suit asking for spare change at the light rail stop this morning.

lol, 51, what? Are they putting Puerto Rico on there? *looks* Ooohh, Washington DC. Heh.

Maine is #35, which is ridiculous when I really look at the numbers. I don't know why they bothered putting the first two categories on there at all since their "happiness rating" seems to be based entirely on category number 3. For the first two categories, Maine ranks as #51 and #50, respectively. So just because there aren't as many foreclosures here, that means somehow everyone's happy? Or could it be there aren't many foreclosures because everyone's so poor in the first place that the only people who own their own homes can afford it anyway and everyone else rents. That chart is a joke! */end bitter rant*

I kind of think they went "You know? Oregon could be #50, but I think it sucks worse than that. What do you think DC is up to?"

Totally surprised me!!! I thought Oregon was doing kind of ok, comparatively, except for the whole no-one-has-a-job thing. Haha.

Maybe it's some sort of economic trend predictor? Because Maine has always been so darned poor, it's not noticeably worse?

New York is in the top half of the table? Oh right, they aren't including taxes.

As for including DC, that's just not right. It's not a state so it either shouldn't have been counted or the survey should have been titled differently.

Of course, even if DC is left out, well, that still might make Oregon #50. Er, sorry.

I think calling it a "happiness index" is moronic, since they seem to be going more for a "health index" of how much worse it's likely going to get. Not sure. Because dude, California is in the bottom 5? Crazy.
