This week, in bizarro-world:
Okay, I actually regret turning off the game last night, because fielders were pitching and pitchers were fielding and that's probably about as hilarious as a 13-0 loss can be.

I don't have a dreamwidth account, not so much out of personal politics or anything as that I am way behind the news curve and feel daunted by the idea of having to figure out something new. (My brain cells are kind of like Boston pitching yesterday -- scattered injuries, overworked, and getting lost somewhere out in left field.) Am I gunna lose all my frenz? DO U STILL LUV MEEEE?

I thought I had swine flu this morning, but then I ate a bagel and felt better. I can't decide if I want to freak out about this thinly spread epidemic or not. The numbers on the CDC site make it seem so bland that the cynic in me thinks this is all a big diversionary tactic, and next week we'll discover that we invaded England or something while no one was looking. However, CDC people also say "this could mutate and kill everyone in like ten seconds," so I will err on the side of not putting unsterilized objects in my mouth, nose or eyes.

I cannot get up the oomph to do a darned thing this week. I'm brushing up on my telekenesis by staring at the piles of to-dos on my desk and attempting to will them to do themselves.

*loves, sends offer of DW code*

HR put all kinds of antibacterial and sterilization wipe things in all bathrooms, kitchens and random flat unoccupied surfaces in work this week, 'cause of the flu thing.

How is megatrekathon going? Done with TOS yet?
Little Red: trek - fandom shirt - distress_callmylittleredgirl on May 1st, 2009 09:57 pm (UTC)
Yes! I will takes ur offerz, as it is weekend coming up and I should have time to figure out how it werks enuf to make sure there are no other mylittleredgirls in the world. My email address is mylittleredgirl (at) gmail [.] com :)

Nope, we haven't watched Trek in days!! DAYS! So we're still in the middle of season 1. The spacecrack should continue this weekend!
Lanna: Crossover Lovelanna_kitty on May 1st, 2009 10:05 pm (UTC)
invite sent!

I've been watching TNG on Scifi on...tuesdays? something. mondays? Some day of the week. oparu has been writing TNG fic (Including an awesome sga/tng crossover. cracktastic but fun!). It's this fantastic revisit to my very early days of geekery.

Oh the Shirt-Tug-Of-Command! the Huge Hair! The omg-they-actually-made-this? Plots of the season during the writer's strike!
Little Red: trek - ani crazy pills - rightoniconsmylittleredgirl on May 1st, 2009 10:13 pm (UTC)
I tell you, the one I'm reeeeally looking forward to in TNG?

Deanna Troi gets impregnated by a random energy being! And has a baby! And the baby grows into a child in 36 hours!

Lannalanna_kitty on May 1st, 2009 10:34 pm (UTC)
OH MY GOD THE TREKCRACK IN THIS ONE!!!!!!!! I remember watching this episode as a wee little Lanna and thinking..."ok that ain't right?!" because she's RANDOMLY pregnant and isn't flipping out about it? WTF? I mean really? Really? Presumeably you either remember being involved in that one or, like, you remember the GIANT GAPING MEMORY BLANK from I dunno...too much bloodwine?

*dies dead of laff*

Seriously. I told my boyfriend about this one and he was all "... SERIOUSLY?" and I was all "OH DUDE, I WOULD NOT LIE ABOT THIS."

I love that no one is also all "HOLY SHIT, ALIEN SPACERAPE!" after they determine that the baby is growing like a time-lapse chia pet in utero. (Um... that might have to be my weird metaphor of the day. I don't know where that came from, hehe.)
georgie: torchwoodgeorgierae on May 1st, 2009 09:46 pm (UTC)
As far as I know, you've not invaded us yet!
Little Red: trek - jadzia grin - stargatermylittleredgirl on May 1st, 2009 09:58 pm (UTC)
Maybe you just haven't noticed yet due to all the news coverage of SWINE FLU!!!!
georgie: very pirateygeorgierae on May 1st, 2009 11:26 pm (UTC)
Perhaps. But I'm pretty certain I'd notice a certain influx of Americans ;)

the accent's different for a start, haha!! (although, having said all that, I *did* serve two Americans today... OMG, WE'RE BEING INVADED!!!)

I'm going with this option. I am SO over all these people freaking out.

Although perhaps I'm a bit biased working in a doctors office down the road from 4 CONFIRMED CASES OMG.
Little Red: peanuts - cure stupiditymylittleredgirl on May 1st, 2009 10:35 pm (UTC)
Well, you can be more freaked out than most if you want to, then. There hasn't been a single case in the whole of the very plausible state of Oregon, and yet I know people who think all the schools should be closed.
icarus: House - Eric the Beeicarus_abides on May 1st, 2009 10:59 pm (UTC)
Ya know, I live on the other side of a basketball court of where two of the cases live. And I'm not worried at all. Its basically the flu with a side of GI problems. Meh. I see absolutely no reason to worry unless one is traveling to Mexico or has a compromised immune system. Just, working in a doctor's office and having a biology/immunology background, I have to deal with the STUPIDEST questions all day.
Little Red: b5 - ivanova oven - crazybeemylittleredgirl on May 1st, 2009 11:02 pm (UTC)

Oh man. POOR YOU. It would so suck to work in a doctor's office right now. People are all "I NEED PRESCRIPTIONS OF EVERYTHING SO I CAN STOCK UP MY UNDERGROUND SWINE FLU SHELTER!!!"
icarus: House - I Hate Myselficarus_abides on May 1st, 2009 11:10 pm (UTC)
Dude, I've had everything from people calling in saying "well, I read the symptoms online and I don't really have any of them but my sister's best friend's boyfriend was in Mexico six months ago and came over for dinner last week so I think I might be exposed" to people asking me for the vaccine (WHICH DOESN'T EXIST) and then accusing me of discriminating against them when they find out that they cannot get the vaccine (WHICH, I REPEAT, DOESN'T EXIST). I can't make this shit up.

It really doesn't help matters that the regular flu is still ending out its run this season and strep has started going around. For some reason people tend not to believe you when you tell them that its a virus and not bacteria so antibiotics won't have any effect and anti-virals are not a proven preventative measure. Teh stoopid. Gah.
ornithoptercatornithoptercat on May 2nd, 2009 05:24 pm (UTC)
Seriously, it's just some more the flu, as far I can tell based on what I'm hearing. Which sucks and all, but, oh noes, the flu, get some rest drink lots of fluids don't go in to work especially not on public transportation you moron.

I've also been all "zomg do I have the swine flu" because I had a bad headache and an unhappy stomach and nasty dizziness all the night before last and yesterday, and am still not fully ok. I live in a freaking metropolis, so I could have gotten it from someone on the bus or one of the gazillion Hispanic kitchen workers, even if no one I KNOW has been to Mexico and I sure haven't. But now I'm wondering if perhaps it's some sort of migraine thing, since all my headaches seem to be in the same place lately and I'm pretty damn sure it's not my glasses. Or it might just be some other random whatever-the-hell bug I picked up from riding the bus with idiots who don't understand the concept of "cover your nose when you cough". Or something I ate.

Dreamwidth is ridiculously shiny, and works pretty much exactly like LJ, only with extra awesome. I think I will probably migrate over there entirely, soon.

I am glad a bagel cured your not!swine flu, yes. If your country must invade, can you invade Scotland so you can come hang out with me?

I have watched a ridiculous amount of TOS today. I blame you entirely. Oh, the crack.
Little Red: trek - ani what - rightoniconsmylittleredgirl on May 2nd, 2009 06:48 pm (UTC)

TOS. OMG. The crack is addictive.
*: sg1 [sam&jack are adorable]spockette on May 2nd, 2009 08:31 pm (UTC)
*clings tightly*

It is most impressive crack, yes. I am in awe of how many times Shatner has ripped his shirt off in the episodes I have watched today.

ALSO. Um. Would you, by any chance, like some Star Trek books? Because I am no longer going to be living in my mother's house (OMGYAY), so I need to get rid of my Vast Collection, but I would like them to go to a good home, so...um, yes. Trek books? Lots of them?
Little Red: trek - t'pol reading - afterglowssmylittleredgirl on May 3rd, 2009 03:59 am (UTC)
I am SOOOO HAPPEEEEE that you are not going to be living in your mom's house! For your mom causes you angst and makes u crazy. It is bettar to luv her from a safe distance, I think, yah?

I LOOOOVE Trek Books, but you should find another recipient that will take less postage, as I already have text-only versions of liek EVERY TREK BOOK EVAR thanks to a torrent found somewheres. It's AWSUM. I just realized now that I should be reading more of those! But your books must go to a good home, yes. There will have to be someone WORTHY, teehee.
*: tos: [bondage fun time with kirk]spockette on May 4th, 2009 11:43 pm (UTC)
For true, not living in my mother's house will be MADE OF WIN. I am so excited that I now only ever have to go back there when I WANT TO. eeeeeeeeee. thisissoawesome!

I have that same torrent, hai. I have put them all onto stanza, so now I have every Trek Book EVAR on my iphone. It is ridiculously shiny. So, yes, I will attempt to find somebody WORTHY (because my books need to be loved) for the Trek books. *nods*

ALSO. I am watching TOS, and it is your fault entirely that I spent the better part of today trying to find good Uhura/Chapel fic. (I watched "What Are Little Girls Made Of", and hi, Uhura and Chapel kissed, and then Uhura touched her mouth all happy-like. it was adorable!)

Except for the baseball (I alas don't follow it) (*do not injure meh!*) I totally agree with this post. I think there is like one case of the swine flu in our town, but they were getting better last I heard. So, well. I wash my hands a lot and winced when my brother looked sick the other night, but try not to worry.

Also I am way too lazy to switch to Dreamwidth right now, even though I hear that it is epically shiny and wondermous. Perhaps I will hang around and see how it goes.

*sudden flashbacks to when Gmail was by invite-only! so long ago omg!*
