sheep don't sleep
Pick my procrastination! :)

1. Comment with the name of a female character and I'll tell you why I love her. In return, you can do the same in your journal. :D

2. Give me a character from any fandom I know at least fairly well (or not, and I will completely make it up), and I will tell you:

B) The runner up
C) The anti-ship
D) My unpopular fannish opinion on said character
E) One person he/she never fell in love with, and why

3. Your awesomeness. Let me tell you it. (I totally had to skim over everyone's "comment and I'll tell you why you're awesome!" posts due to time crazy this week but I love an opportunity to tell people why they're FABOO!)

Ooooh, fun meme!

1. Janet Frasier

2. Star Trek Enterprise - Hoshi Sato

3. I'm intrigued!

(also. Your drabble prompt ran away and wants to be a real, big fic! I'm writing :)
Little Red: trek - hoshi travis - afterglowssmylittleredgirl on January 31st, 2010 02:47 am (UTC)

1. JANET!! Oh, gosh, I love her. And you know why? She's professional. She's got a head on her shoulders. She's like, "Well, OK, I'm adopting an alien teenager," and she just ROLLS WITH THAT. I like that she loves people fiercely, but she doesn't bring the drama. She stares down her teenage daughter, Nirrti, Hammond, Jack, Sam, everyone at all times. I love that she keeps her cool right from the beginning, in "The Broca Divide," and that she was going to resign when Teal'c was going through the omg-you-must-die-to-reclame-your-soul ritual. She's a great doctor. :)

2. Hoshi Sato! :)
A. HOSHI/TRAVIS OTP. I am far, far too alone in this.
B. Hoshi/Archer. For reals! This wouldn't suck, I swear!
C. Um... I do not have strong feelings on the anti-otp matter? Hoshi can sleep with whoever she wants, for true, though I always thought Hoshi/Reed would be a recipe for psychological disaster on all fronts?
D. I don't know enough about Enterprise fandom to know what's a popular fandom opinion or an unpopular one. However, my unpopular canon opinion is that HOSHI WAS NOT KILLED BY KODOS THE EXECUTIONER, FULL STOP.
E. Malcolm. She loves him, she may even have wanted to fall in love with him a little, and she considers him a close friend, but she always kind of knew he was gay.

3. OMG. Your awesomeness is that I had never heard of you at all, and then I read your swficathon piece and I was like HOLY CRAP, STOP THE PRESSES, WHO IS THIS CHICK!? because it was THAT GOOD. And also, I almost borrowed "anuna" to be the name of... someone... in something... but now I can't remember what. :)

Janet rocks, thta is all *g* I can't say it better than you. I wish she was in more episodes, heck, she deserved to be a regular. I have such love/hate relationship with the ep "Heroes" - awesome ep, and she was awesome in it and then.... *wails*

E. Malcolm. She loves him, she may even have wanted to fall in love with him a little, and she considers him a close friend, but she always kind of knew he was gay.

Bwahahahahaha! I like this description :) Few years ago I read lots of Malcom/Hoshi (probably everything I was able to find? I just loved the idea of them together, although you're probably correct about those disasters) and Trip/T'Pol. And some of Trip/T'Pol couild have been yours? I miss 'Enterprise'. *siiigh*

*blushes again and again* Thank you. That is such a wonderful compliment, thank you so much :)
Little Red: trek - travis/hoshi = - afterglowssmylittleredgirl on February 1st, 2010 06:36 am (UTC)
Yeah... I would have a mixed relationship with "Heroes" if I watched it again, probably? At the time I watched it late due to being apart from my DVR, and knew all the details, and didn't cry because I am cold and dead inside had my then-roommate keenween WATCHING ME waiting for the tears.

Oh, Malcolm/Hoshi. It's there! I mean, in season 1, it totally is. And they're setting it up. And then they don't. And it's just... they have too many neuroses between them, you know? If Malcolm dealt with his RIDICULOUS DEATH WISH a little bit, I'd consider it.

Err... it's possible Trip/T'Pol could have been mine? I do write them? I heart them madly.

You are adorable. :)

1) I love her because she SAVED MY LIFE!! OK, I'm exaggerating. :) But Atlantis came on when I was soooper sick and bedridden and basically spending my time hanging out in the dark or online being physically and mentally ill. And Lizzie being in charge of a whole city was totally motivating in my hard slog to health!! In a ridiculous way! I don't know! About the character, I loved her at first in "New Order" because she was all saucy and totally looked like she was about to have sex with Jack. And that, among other things, sparked this idea of the Atlantis Orgy - FINALLY, we could have characters who would actually get drunk and have casual sex! It didn't quite work out that way (except in fic). I loved that she thought stuff through, and MADE SENSE, and had totally read the SG1 files and was like "YOU GUYS. WE ALWAYS GO AROUND AND FUCK THINGS UP, AND THEN WE HAVE TO HAVE A LONG SHOW WHERE WE'RE IN A WAR." and no one listens, so we have a long show when we're in a war. But at least she saw it coming! I also adore that she's flirty, and personable, and always has a PDA in her hand. And she STANDS BY HER MAN, except when she's slapping him in the head. <3 <3 <3

2) Elizabeth Weir!
A: My top-secret OTP is.... SHEPPARD/WEIR. Don't tell anyone.
B: Jack/Elizabeth ALL THE WAY in RealWorld-verse, and for occasional good time sex in the real world. LOVE IT. (Also, by the way, I like Simon. I do. It would have been OK if they got back together, but also kind of "eh?", because he's that sort of guy.)
C: McKay/Weir. I don't like it. I wrote it for friends I love, and somehow people liked what I wrote and said I Got Them, and I was like !? because no, I don't get it. It would just... McKay needs someone who is as self-involved as he is. He really does.
D: I liked her hair shorter. Seriously, this is a BIG SECRET I HAVE BEEN KEEPING!
E: Carson. This one isn't my anti-otp, I just don't get it.

3) YOU are AWESOME because WE ARE FUTURE BFFs FOR TOTAL REALS!! And you keep surprising me by knowing exactly where I'm talking about if I'm like "I'm going to the 7-11!" or whatever, because YOU ARE FROM HERE! Also, you are in foreign places learning foreign things!!! It's totally trippy. But mostly, COME HOME SOON TO BE MY NEW BEST FRIEND, haha. And I loved your swficathon story. Loved!

1. I totally and completely understand this. It's so amazing what a fictional (and rly rly hot) character can do for you! Lizzeh is definitely a great motivator for me to, you know, stop reading fic and do something Lizzeh!productive. AND HELLS YES. She was so awesome in those SG-1 episodes! Torri just has the best facial expressions EVER. (I rewatched TLG yesterday, and despite the crack of that episode, I just loved seeing Torri play an absolute psycho and kicking all kinds of ass in a really psychotic way. ^^) AND YES YES! I love how she was always trying to find a diplomatic solution without violence and no one would listen to her and then she was right in the end and everyone was all, "Oops, our bad" and she was all *headdesk* AND THE PDA! (this is turning into a flaily Elizabeth comment. It cannot be helped!) AND I noticed during my rewatch, the cutest thing of EVER how Elizabeth is always so FREAKING NICE to her people. Even when ordering them to do stuff it's like, "Major Lorne, could you please prepare a jumper so that I can go save my super sekrit boyfriend? Thanks, you're the bestest. Cookies for you." And Lorne is all, "Yes ma'am right away ma'am I heart you ma'am but totally platonically 'cause otherwise your super sekrit boyfriend would kick my ass." <33333

2. a) SERIOUSLY? I never would have guessed.
b) I can totally see this. Have you written this? Cause I would totally read this. (Simon is okay. He always struck me as someone who was boring in bed and needed a haircut and totally not aware of how awesome his girlfriend was. But otherwise he's fine. ^^)
c) I don't like the ship, but GIVE ME MCKAY/LIZZEH BFFNESS PLZ. All the way. I love it SO much. Tao of Rodney is one of my favorite episodes just for the scene where he writes her a book because ohmygod how utterly cute is that and they are adorable and banter and bffs and there needs to be more fic right now.
d) BLASPHEMY! (hee, no, i kid. I admit, I like longer s3 hair. But she's pretty much smokin' hot no matter what, so. *g*)
e) ....people ship this?

(Also, mini!flail - TLG - the scene where Elizabeth/Pheobus wakes up? WITH ALL HER BOYS AROUND HER? Caldwell and Rodney and Carson and John and all that's missing is Lorne and it is SO FREAKING CUTE.)

3) WE ARE SO GOING TO BE FUTURE BFFS. I cannot wait!! 7-11!! The one on Broadway and 24th? :D Across from the Jiffy-Lube? YAYAYAY! Summer 2010 is going to be AWESOMEEEEE.

EEE and thank you!! That means epic amounts of things to me, for your writing makes me flail like an uncontrollable thing that flails. ♥!

HAHA YES. THAT 7-11. I CAN SEE IT FROM MY APARTMENT. Um, don't stalk me, internet!

Torri is totally delightful, and Lizzie is just GREAT. I love when she does things that aren't great, too. Like when she jokes around with people? She's kind of a little off-tempo and I can just imagine them all, aww, it's cute that she does the sense of humor thing. HEE.

Ahahaha, your whole comment is WIN.

2) T'Pol
3) :D
Little Red: trek - t'pol vulcan - mediemylittleredgirl on February 1st, 2010 07:15 am (UTC)
1) Sam Carter!! I took a long time to warm up to her, and really, I might not have if Jack didn't like her so darned much. Because... erg, you know? I'm unforgiving, and she was just SO RIDICULOUS in the first half of the first season, and I was just like "ZOMG, stop telling me I should love her!" And then I LOVED HER. I think it was "Foothold," where she's the only one traveling around fighting off a body-snatching alien invasion, that I just decided she was deserving of all the love people told me I should have for her AND MORE. I mean, she's ADORABLE. That's a big part of it. And she's a genius, but early on, she acts like she doesn't really get how speshul she is as brilliance falls out of her mouth and everyone else is all :-O. And in season 3 and season 4, her crush on Jack is truly precious and sweet and relatable (it gets a little... awkward later on? a bit? but now they are doing it officially in canon, I assume?). And seasons 5 and 6 are my favorite Sam seasons, because she just walks around secure in her awesomeness. So that is my rambling discussion of HOW I CAME TO LOVE SAM CARTER, and how I just want to snuggle her and give her kittens. :)

A: Trip/T'Pol OTP FTW. I loved it in the pilot, dammit, and was like "I AM SO CALLING THIS ONE RIGHT NOW." (Even though Trip was a little... I don't even know how to describe him in season 1, but he didn't really deserve her til later.)
B: I asked, "Hey [Das Boy], if T'Pol couldn't be with Trip, who do I want her to be with?" He said Hoshi. I said, "Sweet!" Because, actually, I kind of loved that idea back in season 1. :)
C: You know... anytime in Season 2, I would yell "ARCHER/T'POL" at the top of my lungs here. But I've kind of warmed up to it as not The Worst Thing Ever? I mean, he's kind of a tool, but he's a heroic tool. And, more importantly, after the Vulcan Unfuck Trilogy of season 4, he understands Vulcans more than any other human of that era. However, this is still my anti-OTP, because it really is the major competition, and I still break out in a few hives.
D: You would not THINK this would be an unpopular fandom opinion, but: T'Pol is A BAD VULCAN. God love her, but she is. Also, while she was totally mind-raped in "Fusion," because he didn't stop when she told him to, she did enter into the mind meld voluntarily to begin with, so a lot of the "Vulcan AIDS is totally not her fault!" in Season 2 is exaggerated.
E: Koss, but she probably would have, eventually.

3) ZOMG, are you SERIOUS?? I can't even BELIEVE how awesome you are right now. NO RLY. I mean, it was awesome enough that you HEART STAR TREK. I think we even friended each other forever ago because you were offering to mail me Star Trek books and you didn't even KNOW ME. (That could have been someone else? But I'm going with you for the purpose of this narrative!). And then, you also like STARGATE! And ATLANTIS! And these are, like, a whole bunch of my favorite things. Also, you're adorable in general. And THEN I find out that you are an adorable geek who is totally instrumental in bringing to life MY VERY OWN STARSHIP. And that makes you a queen among flisters, for true.

Little Red: trek - jadzia grin - stargatermylittleredgirl on February 1st, 2010 07:36 am (UTC)
1) There are kind of no words for how awesome Jadzia is. She is THAT AWESOME. I mean, her very first second on board the station she's toying with Bashir and informing Sisko -- not in so many words -- that she might be a chick now, but she will still drink him under the table. :) And she probably does. In the first season, she's got this cool aloofness, and this sweet vulnerability because she is totally this young woman whose whole identity has just changed and she's theoretically SUPER AWESOME but is yet to harness it 26 hours a day. And then she harnesses it, and becomes snarky as hell, and it's GREAT. She got over being a Serious Initiate and stopped taking life seriously, and goes around making fun of everyone to their faces and sleeping with aliens (CAPTAIN BODAY FTW) and piloting the Defiant in all its badassness. And then, well, she didn't have a whole lot to do except chase after Worf, but I assume she still does science on the side. And drinking nights with Sisko.

2) Lwaxana Troi
A: Aww, Ian Andrew Troi. <3 She treated him as her favorite subservient human, and he worshipped her, and I will pretend that she would never have gotten bored of him, because there's just no way to know for sure. :) Something occurs to me -- did he take her name? Because to my knowledge she never changed her name, even after she married that other dude...
B: Lwaxana/Odo. The strange thing is that this pairing could actually work, especially if they don't see each other much. I think he was sad to annul their marriage, whenever that happened.
C: Ummm... IDK? There isn't really an anti-OTP if my OTP ended long ago. I mean, there are tons of people who are unsuitable for her, but that's not really the point.
D: Does fandom have opinions on her? I think she's awesome (some people don't, but they're weird), I loved her on DS9 (some people might not? I'm not sure?) and "Manhunt" is one of the greatest episodes of TNG, haha.
E: The man she was supposed to marry in "Cost of Living." She didn't even pretend to love him, poor thing.

3) ALSO YOU ARE AWESOME, though you did not sign up for this part of the meme!!! You rekindle my TNG love constantly!!

because drinking with Sisko would be awesome!! Dax is just win, all the time!! Tongo, crazy hats, spots that go all the way up...

A. I really think he did take her name. Must be customary.
B. awwww, yes! they were adorable together. So sweet, and in a Kira-less universe? I could see it.
C. clearly, too awesome to have an anti
D. doesn't fandom have to love her? she's the first lady of Trek. she was nekkied in Ten Forward!
E. he was such a jerk. *sporks him*

3) *beams* Trek love is like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, or brownies, or mac and cheese. it will ALWAYS be good, no matter how simple something like battlestar alfredo might make it sound, Trek will always be there, flawed and deeply indicative of it's time, sure, but truly adorable and satisfying.

Little Red: trek - jc float on - daygloparkermylittleredgirl on February 2nd, 2010 03:41 am (UTC)
1) OH, JANEWAY. Just, OH JANEWAY. I have a rather conflicted relationship with her. In that - see - I totally get why half of my friends-and-relations hate her. And I'm right there with them in some episodes -- someone tried to convince me the other day that "Equinox Part II" is an amazingly brilliant episode and Janeway is totally in the right and I was like "I AM STRONGLY CONSIDERING UNFRIENDING YOU IN REAL LIFE." That being said... I still love her. She tries hard. She's brilliant. She was a SCIENTIST before a captain, and knows things about stuff, and is SO CUTE when she gets all sciencey. She loves her crew like family, and is adorably maternal toward Harry, B'Elanna and Kes. I love that she gives people second chances. And I love that when she's NOT under fabulous stress, she's fun and playful and GARDENS. She went bad places by the end, and some of that is the fault of her own stubbornness and guilt issues, and some of it is that she didn't have strong enough people around her to say "look, lady, I'm not saying you're a bad captain, but you need a stiff drink and a vacation." Also, I may have written LEAGUES, and I mean LEAGUES of secret fic as a young'n where Captain Janeway had a long-lost half-alien-princess daughter, who had red hair, and was an angsty tween. I could not make this stuff up! I like that she's a real person in a crummy situation, and really, she wins more than she loses, and she forges a lovely family in her flying iron. :)

2) Sam Carter!
A: SAM/JACK OTP 4EVA!!!111!!eleven! By season 7 or so, my brain was saying no, no. just no. but my heart still goes PITTER PATTER OF OTP.
B: .... is it possible I'm so one-sided in my OMGOTP that I never even considered this? I want to be able to see Sam/Janet, I just haven't been able to get there.
C: Sam/Daniel doesn't do a lot for me. I mean, it should, because they're adorable, but no one would ever remember to turn the oven off or bring in the mail.
D: My unpopular opinion is that she's not perfect. She really isn't. I think girlfriend is a little messed up, and that her undying crush on Jack by season 7, after he brushes her off pretty wholesale in seasons 5 and 6 to my recollection, is a little sad. Even though I love it, I think a) her mother dying when she was young, and then b) her father being emotionally unavailable until someone put AN ALIEN in his head has set her up for some dysfunctional ideas of how men and women interact with one another in a healthy romantic relationship. However, I really LIKE that about her. I like that she's "real" and fallible and that her emotions can trip her up even when she's so brilliant. But sometimes I want to slap her, and that is Unpopular In Fandom.
E: I don't think she ever fell in love with Pete, which is a little heartbreaking. I think she fell in love with being loved, and with being infatuated, but that's different. I never got the sense that she really understood him, or really connected with him, or maybe even really wanted to.

3) YOU!! You, on the other hand, I have no qualifiers about when I say YOU ARE AWESOME!! You have two beautiful children and are beautifully, brutally honest about how hard things are in life and family. You're strong and loving and forgiving and sort of grab everyone toward you in a big squeezy hug. You're an amazing cook! You give great compliments, and are a SUPERB beta-reader. You're really always the first to offer a virtual hug whenever my life starts to suck, and you take my side even harder than I take my side. It's reassuring, and I <3 you for it. Loveeee!!

1) Tasha was the first take-no-prisoners kick-ass yes-i-do-martial-arts yes-i-have-sex-with-people-and-objects chick that I ever encountered on TV. She was THE SECURITY CHIEF OF THE FEDERATION FLAGSHIP!!! Awesome. Of all of the Star Trek "this character has a tragic background!" stories, hers is even worse than Ensign Ro's, but it made her tough and ready to fight (and she would have done great in Deep Space Nine). She died the first time in a profoundly stupid way, but the second time - going back in time to save Narendra III on the Enterprise C, being captured by Romulans, pretending to play house with a Romulan for six years, and then trying to escape, only to be exposed by her own daughter - now that is epic.

2) I know this is pretty much unheard of for someone my age, but I didn't watch more than an episode or two of My So-Called Life... wanna give me another? (I did like it! But I don't remember any o the characters.)

3) You are so great. Really. You're brilliant and funny and crack me the hell up, because we share a similar snarky sense of humor. You're inspiring, because you've built yourself a life and a career against all odds and you struggle with a lot of things that I sometimes understand far too well. Knowing you totally helped me in my quest to regain my life too! :) Also, I kind of totally want your career someday, and some day plan to suck up to you to find out what to dooooo. Hehe. Take two on #2:

Monica Reyes, X-Files. Yes.

*<3 s you*
Little Red: xf - bitch - liminallizmylittleredgirl on February 3rd, 2010 05:45 am (UTC)

A: Doggett/Reyes OTP for real and true 4eva. First fic posted online was totally for this pairing. \o/ They met in what is almost certainly the most unhappy way of any teevee pairing, and. yet. ANGST AND LOVE.
B: I'll take Scully/Reyes in a pinch. Mostly because Monica would have been all "No WAY are you giving up OUR BABY TO FARMERS." (I would say Monica/Skinner, but he is STILL MARRIED TO HIS WIFE THAT I SHIP HIM WITH, DAMMIT.)
C: In practice, Doggett/Scully is the anti-OTP for my OTP. But if I have to pick one involving Monica, it would be Monica/Dread Pirate Brad.
D: Um... that she's awesome? This is unpopular in general fandom. In our circle of fandom, people seem to generally think she is AMAZINGLY FABOO (which makes our circle of fandom the bestest), so I guess that doesn't really count. That her hair is really terrible most of the time, possibly right up until "Sunshine Days"? That's probably unpopular.
E: I don't think there's an answer to this. Monica falls in love with people just walking down the street. She loves Doggett. She loves Mulder. She loves Scully. She certainly loved Brad. I mean, okay, she doesn't love Kersh, but that's not a deep revealing thing as much as "well, duh." :)

*GASP* NO MONICA ICONS MUST FIX. *uses other fave show brunette*
